You may or may not know that I read, a lot. I love literature, always have, and I try to read as much as possible despite my busy life. I think it makes us better humans to read stories, see life and experiences from different perspectives, and care about things other than ourselves. It is very easy to get caught up in the mundane drama of everyday life, but when you read a book, you can escape all that. What I am getting into, is that this is what I hope to do with fashion. A lot of things I design are inspired by pieces of literature, even if it is just small details, or the initial inspiration. Artists go far from their initial thoughts when they create pieces of work, because often, we don’t want it to seem derivative. Sometimes..we do. In creating clothing, I hope to transport someone to another place, or time, or plane of reality. They can be whoever they want, and live a life they have always dreamed. Yes, a dress can do that. You just have to have imagination. 😉
I wanted to create a ‘collection’ of stand alone pieces that weren’t a part of any of my seasonal collections, but easy to wear, comfortable pieces that a girl can mix and match into her wardrobe. I fell in love with this fabric and it’s lovely bird print the minute I saw it, and knew I had to have it.
The color is such a show stopper, but it is not so orange as to fall in the ‘neon’ category, more of a classy, bright orange. Which is perfect for summer! The dress has a strong A-line shape, with lace trim and wide bell sleeves. The ‘pouf’ added at the top of the sleeve just gives it such a princess-off-duty look, don’t you think?
When creating clothing, I realized that not everything has to be so dressy it will only suit one occasion, but rather it is important to have pieces that fit many situations and events. But those pieces should still be special enough to stand out when they need to. I don’t believe in boring, drab, clothing. I think every woman deserves to feel like she is the only one in the room.
I love this green outdoor setting for this dress, and it definitely brings in the fantasy vibe I had in my head when I designed it. The headpiece is from a previous collection, but I thought it suited this dress perfectly well. This dress is made of 100% cotton including the lining, so it is perfect for days out, and especially summer and fall weather.
I am unafraid of the beauty in all living things. We all possess it. Some just like to accentuate it more than others. And I believe clothing is a perfect way for someone to accentuate their inner beauty and their personality to others. Never be afraid to be you.
